Merchandise Management Systems for Retail
In a future-oriented industry such as consumer electronics, the rapid response and constant availability of up-to-date product information has always been essential. A solution delivered by SPI was developed and implemented on behalf of an umbrella organization for the radio retail trade in a team of retail specialists, business economists, marketing specialists, and IT experts.
The merchandise management system is trend-setting in more than its functionality. The open client-server architecture, the use of state-of-the-art operating systems and an internationally successful programming language make this system a unique, powerful, and forward-looking product both in its software and hardware components. More than 150 shareholders of the umbrella association have used this system for many years. The SPI solution continues to be used by specialist retailers.
SPI Is developing a similar solution for one of the largest mail order companies in Germany.
Our customer is Germany’s market leader in the travel payment business. In addition to foreign currency trading, their focus is global money transfers, the operation of ATMs, and the distribution of travel-related products. Thanks to this orientation, the company is available to other businesses as a competence center and maintains around 100 branches across Germany: at airports, railway stations, border crossings, as well as at attractive downtown locations.
Our customer is a subsidiary company of DZ BANK and is thus part of a cooperative financial network with more than 1,200 cooperative banks. The company employs around 500 people.
Virtualization in Component Construction
IT under control: the network structure and all hardware were supplied by SPI. Servers (mail servers, database servers) are based on Windows and Linux. In this project, a virtualization concept comes into play, which is realized via Microsoft Hyper-V. In turn, order management and production planning use database solutions.
The development of the programs used for this purpose takes place in-house. SPI assists as a consultant for database development and .NET-programming. The network between the company’s four branches (including telecommuting) is implemented via a VPN. In addition, SPI introduced CAD, CAM, and PDM solutions.
